Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs remained unbeaten with a 33-28 victory over the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
Game Stats
Mahomes threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns despite the offense being without Damien Williams, Tyreek Hill and Eric Fisher. The reigning league MVP and AFC Offensive Player of the Week now has 1,195 passing yards to go along with 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions through three games in 2019.
The Chiefs and Ravens both entered Sunday’s game at Arrowhead with perfect 2-0 records. The talk nationally was about how Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson could be the next Brady-Manning rivalry. On Sunday, Mahomes showed why he was an MVP while Jackson showed he has great speed but a ways to go when it comes to being a top-level quarterback.
Here are our five biggest takeaways from Sunday’s matchup:
1. Patrick Mahomes is historically amazing
Patrick Mahomes played in his twentieth regular season game on Sunday. In those twenty games, he has become the league MVP, thrown for 6,576 yards and 60 touchdowns while compiling a 16-4 record. With his 374 yards on Sunday he now has 13 career 300+ yard passing games, which is the most all-time. (Mahomes is also pacing for 6,373 yards and 53 touchdowns in 2019)
2. LeSean McCoy still has it
Despite playing on a bum ankle, LeSean “Shady” McCoy helped the Chiefs with 80 all-purpose yards and a pair of scores in Sunday’s win. McCoy carried the ball 8 times for 54 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 26 yards and another score.
McCoy’s performance was key because the Chiefs were without starting running back Damien Williams. Williams missed Sunday’s game due to injury.
3. Lamar Jackson is good, but don’t crown him yet
All week we heard that Mahomes vs. Jackson was going to be the new Brady vs. Manning. While Jackson is much improved from a season ago in the passing game, he’s not there yet. Jackson finished 22-of-43 on Sunday, with two completions coming on desperation passes that would be intercepted more times than completed.
That being said, Jackson is solid on short and intermediate passes. He’s also fantastic at extending plays and getting downfield in the running game. Jackson is not Mahomes, and as long as he doesn’t try to be he has a chance to be a very good quarterback for a long time in the NFL. Chiefs vs. Ravens could be a battle for years to come.
4. Emmanuel Ogbah has been very impressive
Ogbah had 1.5 sacks on Sunday for the Kansas City defense. He now has 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss and four quarterback hurries through three games this season. Ogbah was picked up from the Cleveland Browns in the offseason and he has quickly become a key piece of the new-look Kansas City defense.
5. Mecole Hardman is really fast
Mecole Hardman showed Chiefs fans first-hand how fast he can move on Sunday. Hardman got his first touchdown a week ago in Oakland and showed out again in his first career game at Arrowhead.
Hardman caught just two passes against the Ravens, but he finished with 97 yards and a touchdown. His show-stopping play came in the second quarter when Hardman hauled in a deep bomb from Mahomes and sprinted 50+ yards for an 83-yard score. Hardman now has six catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Winning is great but we have to work on protection of QB and our D is still a little sad. We drop our heads way too much while missing tackles and we have to have more “want to” on the rush and jump balls
