The honeymoon is over for the Head Coach and the Quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid and Alex Smith must carry the weight of the blame and criticism for Monday night’s beat down at Green Bay.
It was a dreadful performance by the Chiefs. It was embarrassing to watch the myriad of missed tackles, dropped balls and bad fouls.
This team was unprepared and uninspired to play this game. That’s on the Head Coach.
The Chiefs have serious issues with this offense. They couldn’t move the ball on a defense that is just a notch better than mediocre. The Packers have the 31st ranked defense against the run. Chiefs couldn’t run the ball – not even with Jamaal Charles at full speed. That’s scary bad!
The Packers outgained the Chiefs 170 yards to 3 yards in the 1st Quarter. That pretty much set the tone for a Green Bay romp.
Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL. He carved up the Chiefs back-ups, Marcus Cooper and Jamell Fleming. Rodgers delivered 5 touchdown passes. Cooper and Fleming should be cut today!
Now, in the bigger picture, Andy Reid should relinquish his play calling duties. I’m so tired of the “Dink n’ Dunk” approach. Then watching players running off and on the field like chickens with their heads cut off.
The Special Teams gaffe, twice, of having 12 men on the field was totally unacceptable. Big Red needs to be more involved in the daily preparation of the defense and special teams.
The offense has become stagnant. The Chiefs can seldom get big chunks because the QB can’t find, or is incapable of getting, the long ball in the arms of his receivers.
Why does it take so long to get Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce involved in the game plan? Alex Smith is 4 of 28 this season on 3rd down conversions. Horrendous numbers!
This offensive line is downright awful. When a 350 pound road grader cannot run-block in this league, you have big time issues. Add to that, one of the worst pass-blocking units in the NFL, your problem is only magnified. Smith was sacked 7 times. He was left scrambling for his life. He needs to bootleg or runaway from pressure or he’s going to hit the dirt.
The Chiefs have clearly dug themselves a hole with back-to-back losses. The Cincinnati game looms large for this franchise. Another disappointing performance by Alex Smith will only stoke the fire for a change at QB. The thought of benching a $17 million dollar a year signal caller will get a lot of play in this town. If Smith is guilty of another stinker against the Bengals, it will warrant a full fledge controversy.
This regime is in its third season with the same head coach, the same quarterback and the same coordinators. Excuses can no longer be tolerated. The Kansas City Chiefs are the second most overrated team in the NFL. It’s time they go out and prove they’re a good football team. However, right now, there’s a big question mark as to if they can do this.
