With the Super Bowl over and the NFL heads into its offseason (if there is such a thing for the biggest sport in the world), the Kansas City Chiefs will look forward to the 2016 season with plenty of questions to answer.

As it stands right now, though, the Chiefs made the top 10 in ESPN’s way-too early power rankings, coming in at N0. 9.

Andy Reid has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, including the return of Jamaal Charles from an ACL injury, but many of his best players are coming up on expiring contracts which need to be addressed.

Charles, KC’s top offensive player, is one of those players and with another major injury tacked on to his 9 years in the league, the Chiefs need to figure out what they want the roster to look like over the next several seasons.

On the defensive side of the ball, three key players are looking for new deals, favoring staying with the Chiefs, but unsure as to what the future holds. Derrick Johnson is one of those players the Chiefs will have to make a decision on. Johnson has been the staple of Kansas City’s defense over the years and has become a fan-favorite.

Eric Berry is another player on the defense that is in need of a new contract. After witnessing Berry come back from cancer and earn a spot in the pro bowl, it’s likely KC will resign the safety to a long-term deal but when asked about his status with the team, Berry didn’t know and wouldn’t speculate.

KC may lose a player or two to free agency, but with a team ready to make a run at a championship, John Dorsey and Clark Hunt will do their best to keep the core group together. Assuming Charles comes back healthy and ready to go, it’ll be interesting to see how the team integrates him back into an offense which was wildly successful with him out of the lineup.

Rumors which have sparked intrigue include a possible deal to bring Robert Griffen III to Kansas City.

Alex Smith isn’t going anywhere soon, and he has proven himself to be a viable options for the Chiefs, but bringing RG3 into the fold would certainly be an interesting move for Andy Reid and his staff. For a coach that doesn’t ask his QB to do too much and essentially manage the offense and use his legs when needed, RG3 could be a decent fit in a Chiefs uniform.

As the offseason continues, how the Chiefs decide to shape the roster heading into the 2016 season will keep the momentum from a playoff season, going until the start of training camp and beyond.
